Here’s how the Walkshop works

  • We’ll meet at a central local in the city.
  • Together, we’ll stop at four locations.
  • Each location will showcasesa different vision of the year 2056.
  • Afterward, we’ll wrap up with a creative closing session featuring food and conversation.

More information (in detail)

On a guided “Walkshop” (walk + workshop) through the city, you’ll immerse yourself in four possible futures: 30 years from now. Taste the wine. Smell the rose fields. Listen to the songs. Hold a newspaper in your hands that hasn’t been written yet.

Each future is based on current trends: society, work, housing, the environment, food, AI, and more. All four futures examine climate change and sustainability from different perspectives. And every future that we explore is possible—not inevitable.

At each of the four stops, you’ll encounter a different possible future, with sensory objects, stories, and ideas that bring them to life.

What on earth is “Walk the Futures”?

Walk the Futures is part of a Europe-wide research project that explores whether walking through possible futures, together, in your own city, changes how people think and feel about the future, and what they’re willing to do next.

We’ll explore each future using climate change and sustainability as a lens to explore wider social, economic, and environmental possibilities, like work, housing, food, tourism, nature, AI, and more. Together, we’ll think about what each future might mean for us and the generations still to come, and what role we have in shaping what comes next.

The live experience lasts about 5.5 hours, including a shared lunch and a short creative session. It’s free to attend. Each Walkshop is limited to a maximum of 12 people and is designed to be reflective, personal, and participatory (and fun!). All materials, as well as snacks and a light meal, will be provided.

Your contribution:
If you register, you’ll be asked to fill in a couple of short surveys (before, after, and a final check-in 6-8 weeks later), in addition to participating in the session. Your surveys and responses to the in-person workshop will contribute to the research data.

The tools:
The experience uses a new approach called “senstoryscapes”, which is a form of experiential futures built on a respected futures-studies framework used by researchers and city planners worldwide. You’ll move through all four, then spend time reflecting individually, talking it through with others, and creating a vision of the future you want – and steps you can take now to make that future possible.
